NASCAR Sprint Unlimited

America’s premier motor sports kicks off its first official race of the 2014 season on Feb 15th at the Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach Florida at 8:00 PM ET. Radio coverage on the Motor Racing Network or MRN, and live coverage by FOX sports.

Some new rules have been added for the start of the 2014 season including, an increase in the height of the rear spoiler and no pre or post race front ride height measurements.

Eight inches is the new required height of the rear spoiler, this is three quarters of an inch higher than last season, although this will create more air turbulence by creating a larger air hole behind cars another adjustment will be made to the cars as to counter this. NASCAR has upped the size of the radiator pan by making it 5 inches wider from 38×13 inchs to 43×13 inchs. The spoiler will now be made out of half traditional composite like before but the upper half will no be made form clear Lexan allowing increased visibility out of the rear view mirror.

Many penalties were enforced because teams failed to meet post race height requirements, but because of the new rules officials will no longer be checking this after the race. The rear of the cars will also sit slightly higher while the side skirt will hug closer to the ground. This will also allow teams to custom tune there suspension allowing drivers more control and to quote Wil Randolph of Road & Track, “Sprint cars no longer handle Like Mustangs with cut springs.”
